What is Microphone Cabinet?
Microphone Cabinet lets you try different microphone-family tonal colours on a recording you have already made. Upload your dry track, choose a model, and listen to a 30-second preview before deciding whether you want the full track.
Who is this tool for?
Microphone Cabinet is for anyone who wants to explore different microphone sounds without recording the part again. It is great for students learning how microphone choices affect a recording, recording artists comparing vocal colours, producers and engineers auditioning ideas, home-recording musicians with a limited microphone collection, and anyone curious about how a track might sound through a different microphone family.
What kind of recordings can I upload?
You can upload WAV or AIFF files. It works best with a clean, fairly dry recording without heavy compression, reverb or other effects already printed into it.
Is the 30-second preview free?
Yes. You can create a 30-second preview so you can listen to the result before using a credit for the full track.
What does one credit give me?
One credit gives you one full-length processed track using the microphone model you selected.
Can I try all the microphone models?
Yes. The Download all models option uses 3 credits and gives you eight separate WAV files, one for each available model.
Do I need to record everything again?
No. Upload the recording you already have and use Microphone Cabinet to explore a different microphone-family sound. It will not recreate a different recording session, microphone position or room, but it can give you a useful tonal direction to compare.
Are these exact microphone emulations?
No. Microphone Cabinet creates microphone-family tonal colours based on measured and curated reference data. It is intended for auditioning different directions, rather than claiming to be an exact replacement for a particular microphone, room or recording chain.
How long are my rendered files kept?
Saved rendered files are automatically removed after seven days. Download anything you want to keep before then.
Do I need an account?
You can try the preview, but you will need an account to keep track of credits and download full-length renders.
